Work Centers & Groups Explained

Work Centers are machines or resources in the shop. A collection of work centers that share the same behavior / have the same functionalities are called Work Groups. Work Centers and be configured in many ways but they should always assigned to at least one Work Group (but can also be assigned to many).

Below are some of the ways people use Work Groups to organize their operations:

• Single: One machine, one user. (i.e. a drill press)
• Pooled: Identical sub-resources ****that can be used… multiple device queue (i.e. 3D printer farms)
• Collection: Varying sub-resources that can be used in a “check out system” (i.e. handheld tools)
• Room: Unlimited users can sign in/out to resource.

Example of Work Centers and Work Groups

Simple example: think of a restaurant that has a few different appliances. Some of them are dual range / ovens, and some of them are just ranges and ovens.

Work Centers:

• 2x Dual Range/Oven

  

• 1x Oven

  

• 3x Range
